Grateful for...

I love the easygoing feeling of summer. Bare feet, watermelon dripping down your hands, tossing a frisbee back and forth. Yesterday I went to a small cookout with a few friends (including the recently married Hannigans) in Northside Park. We played Can Jam (a game where you toss a firsbee back and forth trying to make it into a small black "can") and ate watermellon. Later that night Jen and I went to see Despicable Me at the park. We packed up a colorful tablecloth, some snacks (a piece of the best wedding cake around, thanks to the wedding I worked on Saturday) and found a spot to sit on the hill overlooking Oakland and The University of Pittsburgh (our alma mater). While we all waited for the sun to set and the movie to start a small Indian festival was performing songs and dance and selling food and crafts to raise money for children in India. Though we've seen the movie before, there is something special about seeing it (for free) in the middle of a park at dusk.

I'll say it over and over again, I'm so grateful for Pittsburgh in the summertime.
